UPDATE: This morning Desiree Wilson and her family voluntarily left the home on Tempe Drive in order to avoid a trespassing ticket. Her family has moved back into the room where they were temporarily staying at her parents house. She is still in search of a home for her family.
Take Back the Land – Madison will continue to move families into vacant foreclosed houses, defend families from foreclosure, hold banks accountable, and assert that housing is a human right.
Please stay tuned for more actions in the coming week.
We will be calling on everyone who agrees that housing is a human right to let it be known this month. We will be asking people to take action to demand that banks turn vacant foreclosed homes over to the Madison Community Land Trust, and that local officials allow families to remain in homes.
Also, check out similar actions happening around the country as part of the Take Back the Land Movement to elevate housing to the level of a human right.
